Youth Choir of Maks Pečar National Hero Primary School, Ljubljana Črnuče, Slovenia

The Youth Choir of Maks Pečar National Hero Primary School has been regularly participating in regional, national, and international competitions since 2015. In 2017, the choir performed at the »Potujoča muzika« (»Traveling Music«) concert, which featured selected youth choirs from all over Slovenia. That same year, at the Central Slovenia Regional Competition, they received several awards, including the prize for the best youth choir of the competition.
The choir has also performed at competitions abroad. Most recently, last year, the singers won a gold award at an international competition in Bratislava, which can be considered the choir’s greatest achievement to date.
In recent years, the choir was led by conductor Mitja Vaupotič, while as of this year, Vid Čadež has taken over the leadership. Under his guidance, the singers aim to continue their high-quality work and participation in choral competitions and events.

Youth Choir of Alojzij Šuštar Primary School, Ljubljana Šentvid, Slovenia

Conductor: Nadja Janežič

The Youth Choir of Alojzij Šuštar Primary School has been singing for 12 years, as the school first opened its doors in 2008. The choir has been led from the beginning by conductor and music teacher Nadja Janežič. It consists of 12 male and 52 female singers, totaling 64 members.
Each year, together with other school choirs, the choir prepares two concerts and participates in school events. It also performs annually at the St. Stanislav Institute’s concert in Cankarjev dom. The choir has collaborated with well-known Slovenian musicians and appeared on television programs. Some of their most recent collaborations include performances with singer Nina Pušlar and the trio Vivere.
Every year, the choir strengthens its bond at a singing weekend filled with music and socializing. Additionally, it regularly competes in regional, national, and international competitions.

Youth Choir Mavrica, Tišina Primary School, Slovenia

Conductor: Alenka Brulc Šiplič

The choir comes from the land of storks, traditional wedding announcers (pozvačini), cimbaloms, and warm-hearted people. The people of Prekmurje are cheerful, and music is their faithful companion on various occasions. Singing has a long and rich tradition at Tišina Primary School. The choir consists of singers aged 11 to 15.
Each May, the choir performs an annual concert together with the children’s choir. It is an essential part of all school events and also performs at local and municipal events in Tišina.
The choir regularly participates in regional choir meetings and receives high praise. It is consistently selected for regional competitions, where it has won several silver awards and, in recent years, multiple gold awards. In 2011, it was chosen as one of the 13 best youth choirs in Slovenia and performed at the »Potujoča muzika« (»Traveling Music«) event in Ljubljana. In 2012, the choir competed at the national competition for children’s and youth choirs, earning a silver award.

The choir has competed four times at the international competition in Olomouc, Czech Republic, most recently in 2015, when it received a silver award. In April 2016, it participated in the Vallis Aurea Cantat competition in Požega, Croatia, winning a gold award. In April 2017, it competed in Slovakia Cantat in Bratislava, earning a silver award. In June 2018, at the Lege Artis competition in Tuzla, it received a gold award and second prize in the Grand Prix competition.

Youth Choir of France Bevk Primary School Tolmin, Slovenia

Conductor: Barbara Kovačič

The Youth Choir of France Bevk Primary School Tolmin is a significant presence in Slovenian choral music and the broader cultural scene. Its driving force, conductor Barbara Kovačič, has enabled the choir to operate at a high level both nationally and internationally for many years with her creative ideas. She places special emphasis on in-depth work with singers, organizing numerous vocal workshops with invited pedagogues to foster the choir’s development.
For years, the choir has collaborated with outstanding Slovenian conductors such as Stojan Kuret and Petra Grassi, as well as vocal coach Martina Burger. Their activities are closely linked to local, national, and international projects carried out in cooperation with experts, professional institutions, and both Slovenian and foreign schools. The choir maintains a strong connection with Slovenian composers (Tadeja Vulc, Ambrož Čopi, Andrej Makor, Patrick Quaggiato, Matej Kastelic…), regularly incorporating their new works into its repertoire.
Beyond involving a large number of children, fostering a long-standing tradition, and integrating into the cultural environment, the choir consistently achieves remarkable results at regional, national, and international competitions. Their vocal unity, compelling interpretations, and carefully curated repertoire never fail to impress both audiences and juries. They are frequently invited to perform in Slovenia and abroad, serve as demonstration choirs for choral conducting workshops, and participate in archival recordings for the national radio.
One of their most notable recent achievements was winning a gold award with distinction and first place in the youth choir category at last year’s international choral competition in Belgium. With their consistently high results in competitions, they serve as significant promoters of their municipality and country.

Youth Choir of Glasbena Matica Ljubljana, Slovenia

Conductor: Irma Močnik

In recent years, Glasbena Matica has significantly enhanced the quality of its youth choir under the leadership of conductor Irma Močnik and a dedicated artistic team. Through intensive vocal training (Tanja Rupnik), the choir has rapidly reached a level that enables participation in ambitious musical and theatrical projects.
Between 2014 and 2024, in addition to studying concert choral literature and performing at choir concerts and gatherings, the choir has focused primarily on staging musical productions for children. These include Kaznovana radovednost (P. Šivic), Brundibar (H. Krása), The Hobbit (D. Burry), Všeč si mi (D. Močnik), The Snow Queen (M. King), The Boy Who Grew Too Fast (G. C. Menotti), The Kingdom of Music (T. Vulc), and Kekec and the Goblin Skovik (T. Habe). Throughout these projects, they have prioritized the individual vocal development of young singers and their overall artistic growth through musical theater.
The Youth Choir of Glasbena Matica consists of boys and girls aged 10 to 15 from Ljubljana and other regions of Slovenia (Bela krajina, Primorska, Notranjska, Gorenjska, Dolenjska, Štajerska). Its artistic leadership includes renowned musicians and theater professionals such as I. Močnik, T. Rupnik, M. Kink, E. Hribernik, J. Barbo, I. Kocen, D. Močnik, and S. Kulenović.
Due to the choir’s high artistic standards, its musical productions have been part of the regular T. program of Cankarjev dom for several years. Additionally, the youth choir and its individual members frequently collaborate with SNG Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, the Slovenian Philharmonic, and the Ljubljana Festival.

Choir of the Vocal Studio Horos, Ćuprija, Serbia

Conductor: Jelena Stanojević Kačavenda

Vocal Studio HOROS was founded in 2023 in Ćuprija at the initiative of students and teachers from the solo singing department of the Dušan Skovran Music School. The need arose to form an ensemble (choir) of talented young musicians who, through work on thematic vocal music programs, could contribute to the promotion of artistic choral music.
The Dušan Skovran Music School, established in 1953 in Ćuprija, enthusiastically supported the wishes of its current and former students and colleagues. On the occasion of its 70th anniversary, the school became the main sponsor of Vocal Studio HOROS.
Under the artistic direction and conducting of Jelena Stanojević Kačavenda, HOROS aims to raise awareness of the importance of active musical engagement by performing works primarily from the Serbian artistic music tradition. The mission of Vocal Studio HOROS is also to promote timeless and noble values of artistic music, preserving and nurturing them through high-quality interpretation.
Despite its short existence, the ensemble has already performed at numerous events. They are particularly proud to be the initiators and organizers of the Svetosavska Academy in Ćuprija. In August 2024, they performed a full-length concert as part of the Serbian Spiritual Transfiguration Days in Despotovac, presenting sacred works by Serbian composers. To mark the 30th anniversary of the “Choirs Among Frescoes” festival, they performed a concert in the atrium of the National Museum in Belgrade.

They celebrated their first anniversary with the concert “Vertep and the Star”, presented in the form of choral theater. Their greatest inspiration is bringing Serbia’s rich musical heritage closer to the audience.

Gruppo Vocale Garda Trentino, Riva del Garda – Trento, Italija / Italy

Conductor: Enrico Miaroma

The Gruppo Vocale Garda Trentino of SMAG Scuola Musicale Alto Garda (Riva del Garda – Trento – Italy) is composed by girls and boys from all the towns of Garda Trentino (Arco, Riva del Garda, Nago-Torbole, Dro, Ledro) who, after the experience in children’s choir from an early age, take part in this formation for some special projects. The group won the 1° prize in Vittorio Veneto’s Choral National Competition in 2021 in the vocal groups category, the 2° prize at the Polyphonic Choral Competition of Arezzo in 2022, the 1° prize in 18th Budapest International Choir Competition & Festival in Budapest (Unghery) in the vocal groups category and the 2° prize in the overall competition in 2023, the 1° prize in Carpi’s Choral National Competition in the vocal groups category in 2023, the 1° prize in Fermo’s Choral National Competition with highest scores of the overall competition in 2023, the 1° prize in Secular Category section and the 3° prize in Sacred Category Section in Vittorio Veneto’s Choral National Competition in 2024. It took part to the 1° Gran Premio Corale Italiano organized by Feniarco in 2024, a formal gran prix competition for the best Italian choirs. In 2022 they recorded a CD for the Dutch label Brilliant Classics with a repertoire entirely made up of pieces taken codex of Las Huelgas from XIV century: this is a prestigious commitment that brought the group to be known among medieval music lovers and experts from all over the world. From its foundation, its conductor is M°. Enrico Miaroma.

Pražská kantiléna, Praga, Czech Republic

Pražská kantiléna, founded in 1991, is the Children’s Choir of Jižní Město Elementary Arts School in Prague, Czech Republic. Three preliminary and two concert sections are home to 450 students. The younger of the two concert choirs is Pražská kantiléna Children’s Choir, dedicated to children and youth from 12 to 19 years. The choir’s repertoire consists of wide range of music styles and genres, with special emphasis and passion for works written in 20th century and pieces inspired by folk tradition. Cooperation with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Collegium Marianum orchestra, the Prague Youth Philharmonic and numerous appearances at the programme of prestigious concert cycle “Pocta tvůrcům” (devoted to the works of the most important Czech composers of the 20th and 21st century) are the most significant activities of the choir. The choir received number of golden diplomas or first prices in category in the Czech Republic and abroad as well, for example: Neerpelt 2016, Limburg 2017, Kaunas 2018, Bielsko-Biala 2018, Tuzla 2019, Prague 2022, absolute winner of Venezia in musica in 2023 and golden diploma in Riva del Garda 2024.Conductors are Anna-Marie Lahodová and Ondřej Lhotka and the accompanist is Olga Cviková.

VVV Vokál, Veszprém, Hungary

Conductor: Ágnes Erdélyi

The youth choir of the city – as the part of Veszprém City Choir Association, as an aftergrowth fot the adults choir – is in the cultural life of Veszprém till 2002. Ths youthful and colorful repertoire of the Vokál is shown in many and varied type of celebrations, and concerts. The association and Csermák Antal Music School sustain together the work in the youth choir, where 12-20 years old girls and boys are singing – now cca. 50 singers – who are learning in different schools in Veszprém. More of them plays in musical instruments, and they like to be involved in the concerts with their knowledge. The repertoire is from folk songs through classicals and vocal modern music till music from all around the world. In the more than 20 years of the life of the chior there were normal concerts, training camps, trips in Hungary and abroad, and specific projects like contribution in a film, or in a musical. The city of Verszprém was the cultural Capital of Europe in the year of 2023, during this year there were uncounted lot valuable program for the Vocal, we were able to build a relationship with the “Fény” choir in Japan wich is working with the “Kodály system” in music teaching. We were able to meet them in last summer in Japan also. The musicial director of the Vokál is Ágnes Erdélyi, who is the conductor of Veszprém City Coir as well, and she is a talent manager masterteacher in Csermák Antal Music School in Veszprém.

Mixed Youth Choir of I. gimnazija Celje, Slovenia

Conductor: Tomaž Marčič

The Mixed Youth Choir of I. Gymnasium in Celje was revived in 1945 by the legendary conductor Egon Kunej. Since 2009, it has been led by Tomaž Marčič, who has achieved numerous successes with the choir on both national and international stages. These include four gold awards at the national competition in Zagorje, gold awards at international competitions in Tuheljske Toplice (Croatia) and Bad Ischl (Austria), as well as first-place victories at competitions in Bad Krozingen (Germany), Palmanova (Italy), and Prague (Czech Republic).
In addition to numerous performances, the choir prepares at least two full-length concert programs each year, collaborates with other ensembles (such as the Symphony Orchestra of the Celje Music School, Trio Eroika, Nude, and Mi2), and performs on international tours.
In recent years, the choir has participated in performances of Jože Trošt’s oratorio Blessed Anton Martin Slomšek, the premiere of Tadeja Vulc’s cantata The Birth of Light, and concerts under the direction of Stephen Layton, performing Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem alongside the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir.

Die Primaner, Berlin, Germany

Conductor: Jan Olberg

The Primaners are a mixed youth choir consisting of students from grades 10 to 12. All singers attend the music-focused Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium in Berlin. Ensemble music is an integral part of music education at this school. Continuous rehearsal work on the one hand, but also an annually changing line-up on the other hand, shape the Primaner choir image. The choir was founded 30 years ago by its current choir director Jan Olberg. Numerous concert tours and competitions have taken the Primaners to the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Korea, Israel and the USA. In 2024, the Primaners won a gold medal at the International Young Bohemia Festival in Prague.
